Kim Rosen - When your doctor sells credit cards

Kim Rosen illustrated a story for the Saturday edition of the Wall Street Journal called "When Your Doctor Sells Credit Cards". Not only do we love Kim's work here, but we also think everyone should read this article!

Some frightening quotes from the story:
"The medical credit cards also have drawn criticism for their billing terms. The cards typically offer interest-free payments for up to a year, but when new rates kick in, they can be sharply higher."

"...GE's CareCredit can surge to 26.99% after the promotional period ends, and the card charges "retroactive" interest rates as high as 26.99%—meaning that if you make late payments, you may be charged interest on the previous year's balance..."

Calef Brown illustrates for Fit Pregnancy Magazine

Calef Brown illustrated a new piece for Fit Pregnancy Magazine. The illustration was for a story on postpartum depression, and ways expectant moms can be prepared and learn about it. We love the way the piece turned out -- so Calef!

In his own words:
"The title of the piece – Out of the Blue – suggested not only something appearing suddenly, but also the isolation of being adrift at sea. I wanted to depict the feelings of isolation and darkness of the subject, but also reflect the hopeful and positive aspects of the article, which is why I included a lighthouse in the painting."

Dave Stevenson for King of Kahel

Dave Stevenson created this black & white map illustration for a book titled King of Kahel , a story of colonialism, a French child's fantasy, and 19th century Guinea.  It's nice to see yet another variation of Dave's amazing maps, which are created completely by hand without any sort of digital manipulation or effects!

Cathie Bleck illustrates 100 Years of Solitude

Cathie Bleck illustrated this book, One Hundred Years of Solitude, which is part of an ongoing best selling classics leather bound series that Barnes and Noble has been doing for over 5 years. Cathie also illustrated Dante's Divine Comedy in that same series.

Cathie worked with Jo Obarowski and Patrice Kaplan who are the star Art Directors at Barnes and Noble. Jo discovered Cathie's work at the New York Book Fair a few years ago when she saw her then new book Open Spaces (which you should also check out!)

Bob Dob walks in Lucy's shoes

Bob Dob recently worked on this piece for Illumination Magazine, the official magazine of the MU Office of Research. The magazine chronicles research, scholarship and creative achievement at the University of Missouri - Columbia.  Bob created his interpretation of "Lucy", one of the oldest discovered hominids, for an article that discusses further evidence that Lucy actually stood upright most of the time.  If she'd had the cool kicks that Bob gave her, she probably would have stood up all of the time!
