Dave Stevenson's maps featured in dpi Magazine

Dave Stevenson is one of the map illustrators featured in dpi Magazine's Art Quarter: Panorama of Illustrative Maps.  dpi Magazine is a Taiwanese publication that focuses on modern art, graphic design, and illustration news, and they contacted us late last year to see if Dave would be interested in participating in this special feature.

We just received our copies of the magazine, and it's gorgeous!  There is a 6 page spread of Dave's work as well as an interview with him.  The photos don't do the artwork or the publication justice, but at least you get the idea.  Now, if only we could read the interview ;-)

Dave Stevenson for Viking Magazine

Dave Stevenson created these two map illustrations for the March 2012 issue of Viking magazine.  One of the maps shows the routes the Viking used for trading goods throughout Europe and Central Asia.  The other map shows the location of The Battle of Maldon, which took place in the south of England and was fought by the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings.  Dave created both illustrations in his signature style using pen & ink and gouache:

Dave Stevenson map illustration for Lake Erie Living

Dave Stevenson, renowned map illustrator, recently created this piece showing the wine regions of Lake Erie for a feature in Lake Erie Living magazine.  This one is in Dave's signature "old world" map style, and he also did the hand lettering on the map.  We like the way the art director isolated the border treatment and spot illustrations and used them on the subsequent pages of the article:

Dave Stevenson goes back to school!

Last week we received a call from a man in Florida whose son was working on a school project about Egypt.  While searching online for a map to use as part of the presentation, he ran across Dave Stevenson's illustration of a map of Egypt.  He was nice enough to call and ask for permission to use the image, and we of course, with the artist's approval, were happy to help.
Well, a week later, we received a follow up e-mail with photos of the final class presentation along with the great news that the school project was a hit.  His son received an A+ and even an extra credit of 10 points for creativity!

This made us all so happy!  Sometimes it's the little things in life...

Dave illustrates the Disney Family's migration path to the U.S.

Here is the map illustration that Dave Stevenson was commissioned to create as a part of the permanent exhibit in the newly opened Walt Disney Family Museum.  The map shows the migration of the Disney family from Europe to the US.  There is a large reproduction of the map on display right at the entrance to the museum, and Walt Disney's daughter now owns the original art as part of her private collection.
