Lucie Rice was honored to be the featured artist for the 24th Annual Southern Festival of Books, and here is the poster design she created for the event.  Lucie was happy to contribute her art to the festival, especially considering that she loves poster design, reading, AND that Nashville happens to be her hometown!

Jen Lobo for The University of Chicago Magazine

Jen Lobo recently created this illustration for the March/April 2012 issue of the alumni magazine of The University of Chicago.  The article is titled Bobo Soprano, and it is about "how monkeys, the Mafia, Italian academia—and, increasingly, American society—illustrate the biological impulse and social peril of nepotism".  Jen has such an amazing talent for painting animals, and her style was perfect for this piece!

Calef Brown: The Graphic Side

We've recently been sharing some of Calef Brown's work from past projects to highlight other takes on his style that you might be less familiar with.  For Calef's "graphic" style he works on a flatter, less painterly surface and with a more limited color palette.  Here are a few samples which were originally monochromatic paintings that Calef created in all black, white, and gray.  He recently reworked these pieces by adding color to them in Photoshop, and it gives them a whole new look:

Dave Stevenson for Viking Magazine

Dave Stevenson created these two map illustrations for the March 2012 issue of Viking magazine.  One of the maps shows the routes the Viking used for trading goods throughout Europe and Central Asia.  The other map shows the location of The Battle of Maldon, which took place in the south of England and was fought by the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings.  Dave created both illustrations in his signature style using pen & ink and gouache:

Oregon State University TV Spot by Santiago Uceda

Santiago Uceda's work is seen in the latest TV spot for Oregon State University, where he created all of the illustration and, helped with two other artists, animation. He was also the lead creative on the project, did all the story boards, animatic and led the brainstorming sessions.

From his own words:
"We have a small team so we end up taking on multiple roles that would normally be done by several Creatives at an agency. It was all done in-house (script, voice over) except for music which was licensed from a local band."
