Chris Buzelli illustration for NPR

Chris Buzelli, an avid NPR listener, was invited to participate in their 2012 calendar. Every year NPR chooses 12 artists to illustrate each month of the year. Chris's piece was based on his favorite RadioLab episode called "New Nice" which was about a Russian geneticist who domesticated the fox. After several generations of selective breeding, he was successful in creating a gentler, human-friendly pet fox.
Keep an eye out for this new 2012 calendar which is available for purchase from NPR.

Robin Moline - The Joys of Christmas

Robin Moline created this amazing winter landscape for Guideposts Magazine's "The Joys of Christmas 2011".  This is their annual special issue, for which Robin created last year's cover illustration.  Just looking at these images gets us into the holiday spirit, .... or perhaps it plainly makes us want to start a snow ball fight!  ;)

Cathie Bleck illustrates a Nestlé Cookbook

Cathie Bleck recently worked on a Nestlé piece through J. Walter Thompson, in Akron, OH. The project is a beautiful cookbook targeted at the Latino community, is beautifully printed – so well indeed that you you can feel the raised ink which feels like raised velvet highlighting the intricate line work. The cookbook has a photo pocket that each family can slip their own family photo inside on the cover.  Inside it is filled with wonderful Latin traditions which are also common to many cultures as suggested recipes and a place to write your own favorite recipes, memories and traditions.

The book exclaims on the first page:  "Traditions are like threads that weave families together, creating an extraordinary fabric of many colors"

"Celebrations We Share" is a gift from the Nestlé family to yours.  This book is meant to be a keepsake enjoyed year after year, and Nestle is proud to help your family savor these very special times together.

Musicians Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings Illustrated by Kim Rosen

Wonderful portrait of Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings by artist Kim Rosen.

From Wikipedia:
"Gillian Welch (/ˈɡɪliən ˈwɛltʃ/; born October 2, 1967) is an American singer-songwriter. She performs with her musical partner, guitarist David Rawlings. Their sparse and dark musical style, which combines elements of Appalachian music, Bluegrass, and Americana, is described by The New Yorker as "at once innovative and obliquely reminiscent of past rural forms"

This new Chris Buzelli illustration was for Reader's Digest Asia. It was a true story about a man named Mike who was kidnapped and buried alive for 5 days. Ants were biting his hands and eyelids while he was buried in small box in the ground. He lost 23 pounds but was eventually rescued by a inquisitive cop.

Kim Rosen illustrated a great series called the Many Moods of Pregnancy for Today's Parent Magazine. We released the first three last Friday - below are the final three

In Her own words from her blog:
"From all of the pregnant women I know, mood swings seem to be the common thread between them all. Here are six illustrations pin-pointing some of the moods one can expect during pregnancy. The AD wanted the illustrations to have a tarot card feel that would be placed throughout the article..."

The cities include: London, Interbike, Portland, San Francisco, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Des Moines, and Bend.

More about Artcrank below image:

ABOUT ARTCRANK: (from http://artcrank.com/about)
Bikes are the world’s most fun, accessible way to get around. Posters are the world’s most fun, accessible art form. ARTCRANK™ brings them together.

ARTCRANK is a show of bicycle-inspired poster artwork that introduces people to talented local artists and sends them home with affordable, original works of art. Every ARTCRANK show features posters created by local artists from the host city. Admission is always free, and posters are priced to let everybody take home at least one.

ARTCRANK began in Minneapolis in 2007, and has expanded to Denver, St. Louis, Portland, San Francisco, Des Moines and Bend. In September 2010, we held our first international show in London. And in September 2011, we’ll hold our first show at Interbike, the bike industry’s annual convention in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mission:

ARTCRANK uses creativity to change how people look at and think about bicycles, and grow the cycling community.

Bikes, Art and Doing Good.

The best part of our jobs is that we get to travel to some of the country’s (and the world’s) great cities and get to know people who are as head-over-heels in love with cycling and creativity as we are. This is a great privilege, and we channel that same energy into supporting people and groups who are out there doing good.

In every host city, we select a Cause Partner: A local, national or international organization that’s using bicycles to make a difference in communities, help people live better lives, or just make the world a better place. In concert with our sponsors, we use ARTCRANK as a means to help raise money and awareness for these organizations.

Charles Glaubitz - Samurai Girl

Check out this amazing new image by Charles Glaubitz titled, "Samurai Girl"!  This is a personal piece that he created during a workshop that he gave in his studio, and he used his technique of ink and wash illustration with digital color added.  The concept of the project was about conveying a memory to communicate time and space.  This image was inspired by his oldest daughter, Luna, and also in part by his father who was a karate champion and instructor in Mexico - hence the samurai element.  Charles based the color palette on the passing of time chose seasonal Autumn colors.
We love it!
