Chris Buzelli illustrates Kennedy's dog, Splash

From Chris Buzelli's Blog

By Chris Buzelli

"Last Tuesday I illustrated "My Life as a Dog" for the New York Times Op-Ed. It was a great little story about "Splash", the late Senator Edward Kennedy's Portuguese Water Dog and the intern that had to impersonate him. The senator wrote a very popular children's book about his daily life from Splash's perspective. Many children emailed their inquisitive questions directly to Splash. Thus this very fortunate intern became Splash and answered every single email ending each with "WOOF WOOF!! Splash."

Thanks to Aviva Michaelov for giving me my first stab at the Op-Ed. I'm not sure if she saw our recent Dogger posts but this came right on the heels of that occasion.

The day after it printed I received a phone call from Kennedy's office requesting to purchase the original drawing. I really thought I was being punked at first. But, I'm very proud to say that the Kennedy family now owns my drawing of Splash."

Claudine Hellmuth for The Saturday Evening Post

Claudine Hellmuth created 4 illustrations for a feature in the March/April 2011 Saturday Evening Post about a woman who vows to only buy "necessities" for an entire year.  We thought Claudine's distinct collage style was perfect for the story!

Dave Stevenson and the Egyptian Gods

Although Dave Stevenson is best known for his intricately detailed hand-drawn maps, he also works in a range of other styles...and here is a great example.  In late 2009, Dave was commissioned to illustrate a series of Egyptian gods in traditional poses against a background of hieroglyphs for the cover of a book titled, "Pathworking with the Egyptian Gods" (cover below).  Then, just a couple of months ago, we received a call from Llewellyn Worldwide asking if Dave would be interested in creating another and very similar illustration for the follow up book titled, "Invoking the Egyptian Gods".....of course, our answer was yes!  This latest book won't be released until December of this year, but below is a sneak peek of Dave's artwork that will be featured on the cover...

Terri Fry Kasuba Does Patterns

For use on textiles, stationery, clothing & wall paper, among other things, patterns can be quite interesting and fun. Terri Fry Kasuba's launch into this repetitive world has been, from our perspective, a wonderful and new approach. With a humorous and sometimes juvenile twist, she's succeeded in putting her own stamp on all of her new pieces.
