Mariya Paskovsky's illustrated patterns

A big part of Mariya Paskovsky's unique style is the use of intricate line work and patterns throughout her illustrations.  Recently Mariya has been exploring the use of her ornamental and flowing lines as as purely decorative images, and below are some of her latest illustrations.  We think her styles translates beautifully into patterns!

Charles Glaubitz illustrates sleep disorders

Charles Glaubitz created this illustration for a recent issue of the University of Chicago magazine.  The article was on sleep disorders, and below is what Charles came up with.  Charles submitted another sketch on a slightly different concept, which wasn't chosen for publication.  However, he liked the idea so much that he decided to complete the final art for himself anyway - see the Sleep Owl Machine illo at the bottom of post.  We think they're both super cool!

Santiago Uceda's portraiture

Here is a recent portrait illustration that Santiago Uceda did of Oregon congressman Peter DeFazio.  Santiago describes the style as a hybrid of his older style and what he's doing now.  In Santiago's own words, "The way I draw portraits now is not that different from the way I did them before; the difference would be that DeFazio is not as painterly, it does have texture, but has more of a collage approach, the older pieces feel more like paintings."  Below is the DeFazio portrait, along with a few older pieces for comparison.  Whether old or new, we think Santiago's style of portraiture is super cool!

Lucie Rice - Hey, Nashville!

Lucie Rice created these wonderful illustrations for a local promotional mailer in the Nashville area, where she lives. The font she designed to spell out "Nashville" is great, and we're big fans of her color palette! Better yet, check out the Elvis...

Calef Brown poster illustration for Teaching Tolerance

Calef Brown created this illustration for The Southern Poverty Law Center’s Teaching Tolerance program, which works to foster school environments "where equality and justice are not just taught, but lived".
Calef was asked to base his illustration on the following quote:
"Today we have gathered and see that the cycles of life continue. We have been given the duty to live in balance and harmony with each other and all living things. So now, we bring our minds together as one as we give greetings and thanks to each other as People. Now our minds are one."
–Adapted from the Mohawk by John Stokes and David Kanawahienton Benedict

And here's what he came up with!

Jen Lobo illustrates Kepler 22-b

This is another painting Jen Lobo did as a part of a series of illustrations inspired by scientific discoveries from the past year. This painting is based on a planet called Kepler 22-b, a newly discovered planet that could possibly be habitable. (Jen swears she's not making this up!)  This is quite a change from the wonderful wildlife illustrations that we're so used to seeing from Jen:

Christophe Lopez-Huici's cover art for the 60 Second Swingers

Christophe Lopez-Huici recently illustrated this cover for a new 7" single by the 60 Second Swingers.  They are a French garage punk band from La Rochelle, and this is their second release.  On the B-side is a cover they did of the song "60 Second Swingers" by Little Phil and the Night Shadows.  The band's name was inspired by that song, and so they asked Christophe to come up with an illustration similar to the image on the original Little Phil and the Night Shadows LP.  It looks to us like Christophe nailed it!

Santiago Uceda illustrates OSU FileShip

Santiago Uceda created this illustration for a file sharing web application that is being developed by the Oregon State University. This was another opportunity for Santiago to do a space-themed illustration, which he really enjoys whenever he gets the chance. It reminds us a bit of another space monkey piece that Santiago did previously...check them both out below:
